New Year’s Readathon

December 29, 2021

Let the New Year’s Readathon experiment commence!

As you have probably already guessed, a cozy readathon is on the New Year’s menu. Thankfully, we are not in lockdown but our options for celebrating are still very limited. We don’t feel comfortable throwing big parties at home at the moment and the town shuts down at 10 PM. This all means that I’m having a solo New Year’s Eve for the first time in… ever? And I can’t think of a better way to finish off one year and begin another, than reading.

I’m going to read as much as possible for 48 hours. From 12 PM on the 30th to 12 PM on the 1st. I know that a few interruptions will occur. A nice NY dinner is planned, I’ll take a walk around midnight to watch fireworks and I guess I do need a few hours of sleep as well. I also plan to binge The Big Bang Theory whenever I need a break and do some fun dance workouts to get moving. At all other hours of the day(s), I’ll be reading.

My New Year's Readathon TBR:

amari and the night brothers book cover

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B Alston

First thing first, I should finish my current read and follow Amari to the end. I have just under 100 pages left of this magical journey, so it’s a good place to start. Once I finish, I have officially read 20 books more than my yearly goal. Is there a better way to sign off from 2021?

The Project by Courtney Summers

As a big Sadie fan, I can’t wait to dive into Summers’ newest release. I’ve heard mixed things but I usually like the dark and twisted stories so I have high expectations. If I’m feeling more lighthearted once I begin, I might switch this one out with Under The Whispering Door.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

I’m sure you’ve seen this one around a lot lately. As you may know, the one to beat is still the epic tale of Josh and Hazel by Christina Lauren. Psst, check this out if you’re looking for some great romantic books.

Dune by Frank Herbert

While I plan to read the original trilogy sometime, I’m going with the graphic novel for this cozy readathon. I watched the cinema adaption and it definitely peaked my interest for this modern classic sci-fi. I’m far from alone though and am literally nr 782 in line for the book at the library. Yikes.

Next year, I hope to travel somewhere inspirational and celebrate with a big crowd. This year, I just hope for a cozy couple of days around New Year’s. Restrictions and limitations aren’t fun for sure but I understand why it’s necessary! As a passionate reader, I could do worse than having a chill New Year’s surrounded by great books and delicious food, right?

If you’re joining me for the Readathon or have a New Year’s TBR, let me know what you’re reading.

Have a happy (and safe) New Year’s everyone.

Update

I had a wonderfully cozy time reading these books. I definitely got distracted more than I would have liked but it was by good things like fun TV shows, fireworks and chatting with friends.

I read a total of 472 pages within these 48 hours and I’m okay with that number. Now I’ll just continue on with my never-ending TBR. Until next time booklions!
