Happy New Year everyone – may 2020 be an amazing year for all of you! The year is starting out with a toothache from hell and a high motivation to read. I’ll take it. I have a ridiculously long TBR at this point but I love to have choices so it’s not all bad. To get a little more organised I created this fun little 2020 reading goals tag which should be entertaining for both you and me. I’m sure similar tags already exist but you can use it however you please as well. Now let’s get into it!
1. Reading goal for 2020?
Starting out easy, I set my Goodreads Reading Goal for 2020 at 50 books. In 2019 I read 64 books but I have a full-time job and some serious fitness and creative goals I want to achieve as well. 50 seems realistic – for now! I might turn it up a notch if it’s going great around summer.
2. First book I’m reading in 2020?
I planned on House of Salt and Sorrows to be my first read of 2020 but the year didn’t start out as planned. I’m currently hopped up on drugs, fighting the pain of a VERY cruel wisdom tooth I’m having pulled out. Instead I needed something very light and my first read of 2020 has become Her Royal Highness.
3. Most anticipated 2020 release?
There’s honestly a lot but for now I’m gonna go with The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson. This is the third and final Truly Devious book and so far I’ve loved the thriller ride. Publication date is January 21st so fortunately, we don’t have to wait long!
4. New bookish things I want to try this year?
I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a Booktube channel with reading vlogs? I’m not sure if anyone would even be interested but I love vlogs myself and I think it could be fun. Also, I desperately want to see the Harry Potter World in London and if possible go to a book expo of some sort.
5. Most anticipated book to movie adaption in 2020?
There’s a few on the top of my head. The new Little Women adaption is looking really good and I’m crossing my fingers for The Witcher to return with a season 2 this year as well. Obviously, I also have to catch the 2nd To All the Boys I’ve Loved before movie on Netflix!
6. New genres I want to embrace this year?
Towards the end of 2019 I got really into thrillers. I would love to continue on that path since this type of writing is really immersive and, well, thrilling! I would also like to read some more adult books but not for the smutty content, no no. Reading about 16-year olds saving the world when you’re in your 20’s just makes it harder and harder to connect with the characters. We need more YA worlds to move into NA.
7. Sequels I want to prioritise in 2020?
Where to even begin. I read Cinder (which I loved) and Scarlet (which I…liked?) in 2019. I started Cress as well but didn’t finish and it’s currently on hold. Therefore, I would love to finish the rest of the Lunar Chronicles this year – and I’m quite optimistic. I will obviously also prioritise finishing the Truly Devious series. The final book is already pre-ordered and I won’t have any problem finishing this baby. The final sequel I’ll mention is Starsight (Skyward #2). I read Skyward last year and really enjoyed this wild sci-fi. You can check out my review of Skyward here.
So there you have it. I’m really excited to begin a new reading year. I have sooo many books I want to get to and it’s a wonderful mix of older and hyped titles i haven’t gotten to as well as amazing new releases. I invite everyone to do this 2020 Reading Goals Tag whether it’s for blogging or social media. Let me know if you do, so I can check out your reading plans as well. See you next time book lions!
